What Is an Open Enrollment Period?
The federal Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) exchange provides access to ACA-approved health insurance plans in a central online location.
Florida participates in the federal open enrollment period for ACA-approved healthcare. If you enroll in a health insurance plan through the marketplace exchange between November 1, 2022, and January 15, 2023, your coverage starts January 1, 2023.
What Is a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)?
It’s possible to sign up for health insurance outside of the open enrollment period under certain circumstances. Specific life events may trigger an exception to the open enrollment rules. You may be eligible for an SEP if you experience on of the following events:
· Your household income is below a certain amount
· You are getting married
· You are having a baby or adopting a child
· You’ve lost your health coverage
· You are moving
Depending on your circumstances, you may have a window of 60 days before until 60 days after the qualifying event to purchase a new health insurance plan. If you are eligible for a SEP, you may have time to get health insurance coverage for the remainder of 2022.
To find out if you may qualify for an SEP, please contact us today.
What Are the Different Types of Health Insurance?
You may be able to access private or public healthcare coverage, depending on your situation. Some people qualify for public healthcare coverage, which includes VA coverage, Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP.
Private healthcare plans may be available through your employer if they provide health insurance as part of their benefits package. Employers may pay for 100% of your healthcare premiums or they may require employees that sign up for their group health insurance plan to pay a portion of the premiums. If you don’t have access to employer-provided health insurance, you may choose to purchase a plan through the healthcare marketplace.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires plans listed on the marketplace exchange to provide essential healthcare coverage, including:
· Free access to preventive healthcare
· Guaranteed issue regardless of applicant’s medical history
· No limitations due to preexisting conditions
In addition to your chosen health insurance coverage, your agent may recommend that you add certain plan supplements or healthcare plans, including:
· Temporary health insurance
· Medical expense insurance
· Prescription insurance
· Vision insurance
· Dental insurance
· Supplemental health insurance
· Disability insurance
· Travel health insurance
