Increase Your Life Span with Healthy Habits

The key to health, happiness and longevity is rooted in your daily habits. Set them right and one can accomplish anything, including a long and healthy life. Live longer by adding these simple practices to your daily routine.

The human body was meant to be active. Simple daily walks, running, sports or workouts in a gym will improve your health and increase longevity. Exercise keeps your body fit and improves your overall well-being.

Include Fish or Nuts in Your Diet

Eating fish with omega-3 fatty acids once or twice a week reduces inflammation, improves cardiovascular health and improves brain function. Salmon, herring, albacore tuna and sardines are high in omega-3. Nuts are another source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Don't Smoke

Smoking cigarettes, cigars or pipes with tobacco can lead to heart disease, stroke and lung cancer. Smoking also damages other organs in the body and can lead to many other health problems. The average lifetime smoker reduces his life span by 25 years.

Avoid Regular Consumption of Processed Meat

If consumed in abundance, processed meat such as hot dogs, sausage, lunch meats and hamburger can cause heart disease and cancer. Occasional consumption is fine as long as they aren't a regular part of your diet. Eating red meat on a regular basis can also cause similar health problems.

Reduce Stress

Stress hormones like adrenaline are hard on the body over the long term. Stress reduces your immune function and harms your cardiovascular health. While the demands of life often produce stress, it can be reduced by having healthy relationships. Relationships provide both practical and emotional support. They also promote a sense a security and well-being. Laughter and fun with family and friends is a potent stress reliever.

Brush, Floss and See Your Dentist

Poor oral health leads to gum disease, which has been linked to a number of health conditions including heart disease. Brush and floss after meals and schedule regular checkups with your dentist.
